HOW ARE IMAGES AWARDED?
With the Guild of Photographers, images are assessed by a full Panel of highly experienced Judges who grade them in accordance with international judging criteria, and the higher scoring images are awarded a Bronze, Silver, Gold or even a Platinum Bar.
– A Platinum Bar .. Images of exceptional or outstanding quality (only awarded to the ultimate of images)
– A Gold Bar .. Images of particular distinction (very rare)
– A Silver Bar .. Images that are very well crafted (difficult to achieve)
– A Bronze Bar .. Images of a high standard (something to be proud of)
– Graded (G) .. Images of a good standard but which are not deemed
award winning at national competition level.
With The Societies of Photographers, images are assessed by a panel of Judges who grade the images as follows:
Gold: Excellent use of imagination, skill and technique in most areas. Awards will go forward to the annual judging and are deemed to be images of the highest standard and will be published in Professional Imagemaker.
Highly Commended: Good saleable work exhibiting above average skill and technique in most areas. These images will be reviewed at the end of each year by a panel of judges and have the potential of being reclassified as Gold.
No Award: Images which are EITHER a) Good saleable work consistent with standard professional practice in most applicable elements or b) images needing improvement in skill and technique in most applicable elements.
Guild of Photographers
As some of you may already know, I am a member of the Guild of Photographers since 2016. This was the first organisation I became a member of.
The Guild is the highly regarded national photographic body whose members are dedicated to enhancing their skills in the art, craft and profession of photography.
Members of the Guild are committed to achieving the highest standards of professionalism for the benefit of their customers. They pledge themselves to delivering the highest standards of customer service and to a journey of continuing professional development. The Guild’s website (www.photoguild.co.uk) lists members throughout the country who offer this commitment, along with advice on how to choose a photographer that will meet your needs.
I have also acheived the highest level of acheivement with the Guild of Photographers, becoming a Master Craftsman in Professional Photography and also holding a Craftman in Newborn and Baby Photography with 2 panels of images:

Achieved the “Photographer’s Bar” – 2016-2021
Following my success at the Guild Awards in 2021 (awards for 2020) I decided to step back from competition and only entered a few images for 2021 and have not entered competition since
I am thrilled to have been awarded a lot of Gold awards, loads of Silvers and countless Bronze Bar awards. The guild has very demanding standards when judging national photographic competitions, the judging is undertaken by a panel of experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds, A Silver bar is only awarded to images that are very well crafted and a very high professional standard and is very difficult to achieve, A Bronze bar is an image judged to be of a high professional standard at national competition level.
I have also had images published in photographic magazines.
At the start of 2016, I won the Guild of Photographers Photographic Bar, and more so acheiving the status of International Top Ten Photographer in both Newborn & Baby and the People categories. This is very hard to achieve, this shows a year of consistently high scoring award winning images, I was beyond thrilled to be presented this.

I have, on the odd occassion, entered other association competitions to see how my work is viewed. As you can see, I dont enter much lol
