What to Expect at Your Newborn Photography Session

By Deborah Longmore Photography | Newborn Photography Tamworth & Birmingham

Welcoming your little one into the world is a life-changing moment — and capturing those first days through professional Newborn Photoshoot Session is a gift you’ll cherish forever. But if this is your first time booking a newborn photography session, you might be wondering…

What actually happens during the shoot?
How do I prepare?
Is my baby safe the entire time?

As a specialist newborn photographer, I’m here to guide you through the process and ensure the experience is calm, enjoyable, and stress-free — for both you and your baby.

📍 Where the Magic Happens

All sessions take place in my calm, cozy studion in the heart of Tamworth Town Centre. It’s designed with comfort and safety in mind, featuring soft light, soft textures, soothing sounds, and everything we need for your baby — from blankets to backdrops, wraps to props.

🕰️ When to Book & Timing Your Session

The best time to photograph your baby is between 5 and 14 days old. During this window, your newborn is still wonderfully sleepy and naturally curled — ideal for those peaceful, posed images.

That’s why I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant (usually in your second trimester), and then we confirm your session once your baby arrives.

I do, however, offter newborn photography sessions up to 10 weeks for those little ones that may need a little bit longer to be ready for their session or for clients that wish to book once baby has arrived.

👶 What Happens During the Session

A typical newborn session lasts around 2 to 3 hours. This gives us plenty of time to settle baby, feed if needed, and gently ease into each pose. Your session includes:

  • A warm, welcoming environment
  • A mix of posed images and natural, baby-led shots
  • Use of studio wraps, outfits, headbands, bonnets & props
  • Opportunities for sibling and family portraits (if requested)

Everything is done at baby’s pace. There’s no rush, no pressure — just soft hands, gentle guidance, and lots of love.

🤍 Safety Always Comes First

This is one of the most important aspects of newborn photography. I’ve undergone professional newborn safety training, and I am also a newborn photographer trainer myself. Every pose and prop is chosen with your baby’s wellbeing in mind. Your little one will always be fully supported, warm, and safe.

No risky poses. No discomfort. Just peace, care, and patience.

🎨 Styling, Colours & Props

Before your session, we’ll discuss about your style and preferences — do you love soft creams and earth tones? Maybe some muted pastels or timeless monochrome? A questionnaire is sent to you on booking ready for your completion so the session can be styled to meet your needs.

You’ll have full access to my curated studio wardrobe and prop collection. Everything is carefully chosen to complement your baby and keep the focus on what matters most — them.

👗 What Should Parents Wear?

Neutrals work beautifully on camera — think soft whites, creams, beiges, and greys. Keep patterns to a minimum, and wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.

I’m happy to offer guidance before your session — and yes, we can absolutely plan for a few mum and baby shots you’ll treasure forever.

After your shoot, I’ll hand-edit a gallery of beautifully retouched images, each one chosen and polished with care. You’ll then be able to view your images via a password protectd gallery where you can:

Choose your favourite images
Select from fine art albums, wall art, prints, and digital collections

Every product I offer is of the highest quality — designed to be loved, displayed, and passed down through generations.
