👶 1. Timing is Everything

Newborn photography sessions are ideally done when your baby is between 5 and 21 days old. During this window, babies are sleepier, easier to pose, and more comfortable in those beautifully curled-up positions you see in my portfolio.

When you book with me, I’ll pencil in your due date and adjust as needed once baby arrives.

If you wish to hold your newborn session when baby is a little older, I do offer newborn sessions up to 10 weeks.

🍼 2. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session

If possible, try to keep your baby awake for 1–2 hours before your session. A bath, gentle playtime, or undressing baby before leaving for the studio can help. A sleepy baby = smoother posing and a more relaxed experience for everyone!

🕊️ 3. Feed Just Before the Session

A full tummy is key to a content, sleepy baby. Ideally, you’ll feed baby right before the session starts — either at home or once you arrive. I always build in time for feeding, cuddling, and soothing. No rush, no stress.

💼 4. What to Bring With You

Here’s a quick checklist of what you might want to bring:

  • Nappies & wipes
  • Spare milk or bottles (if formula feeding or expressing)
  • A dummy/pacifier (even if baby doesn’t normally use one — it can really help during posing)
  • Extra clothes for baby and yourselves
  • Any special keepsakes or heirlooms you’d like to include in the photos

And don’t worry — I provide all the wraps, props, blankets, and backdrops!

🧘‍♀️ 5. Dress Comfortably (and Simply)

The studio is kept lovely and warm for baby’s comfort, so dress in light, comfy layers. If you’ll be in the photos too (which I highly recommend!), neutral, soft tones work beautifully and keep the focus on your connection with baby.

Avoid loud patterns, logos, or overly bright colours — simplicity is timeless.

When travelling, it is always best to not put anything on baby that needs to go over their heads when removing, as this can often wake babies up. Dressing your baby in a simple baby grow for easy removal is preferred as to not disturb them if already asleep when they arrive at the studio.

🧸 6. Trust the Process

Newborn sessions can last between 2 to 3 hours. That allows plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and breaks. Some babies sleep through the whole thing, others need extra cuddles — both are perfectly normal!

This session is as much about you as it is about your baby.
