Creating Composites in Photoshop

Newborn Composites | Deborah Longmore Photography

2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone, and like many small business owners, I had to temporarily close my studio at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. This meant I wasn’t able to photograph your precious newborns during their first few unforgettable days.

To stay creative during lockdown, I began designing my own digital backgrounds and exploring new ways to create Photoshop newborn composites using previous client images. What started as a simple creative outlet has now become a beautiful addition to my newborn photography sessions.

Today, I’m delighted to offer these custom newborn composite images as part of your session whenever requested. If you have a special idea in mind—whether it’s a meaningful theme, favourite colour palette, or a unique concept—please let me know before your shoot. This allows me to plan a personalised digital backdrop that truly reflects your family’s style.

One of the best things about composite photography is that it gives you stunning, artistic images without the need for complicated or time-consuming set-ups during your session. Your baby can remain safely and comfortably posed in my support posing system or placed in a simple prop. From there, I can seamlessly blend that pose into a custom digital composite background, giving you two completely different final images from a single setup.

I’ve absolutely loved incorporating these creative composites into my workflow, and many parents adore the variety they add to their newborn gallery. If you’d like to include a bespoke composite in your session, just let me know—together we can create something truly magical.
